23Aug2010:
The secretary for SiChuan province has been to the badly hit town of YingXiu on Saturday. The authorities had earlier planned 6 explosions to blow up part of the banks of Min Jiang, thus clearing any blockage and allowing the rising river to flow through. They will concentrate on strengthening the banks and clearing unecessary blockages to save YingXiu town from flooding.
He said YingXiu has past the disastrous situation, and is now in the damage-control stage.
We advised our clients to hold back any plans to SiGuNiang area for the moment, (since the road will pass through Ying Xiu town), until the situation and weather is stablised.

“In southwestern China, authorities managed to evacuate all passengers from two train cars that dangled for several minutes over a muddy, rushing river before falling into the water.
The train was traveling in Guanghan city of Sichuan province when it began shaking and then stopped moving, dining car supervisor Wang Baoning told China Central Television. Floodwaters had loosened piers on the Shitingjiang bridge, Xinhua said.”
Travel plans in October will be monitored closely.
